The group research is focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of new surfactants as well as on the study of their interactions with other species. The surface activity, the self-aggregation process and the morphological transitions are investigated. Properties of technological interest such as the solubilization capacity, the foamability and the biocide activity are also studied. The environmental impact of the surfactants is examined by determining their biodegradability and acuatic toxicity.
With regard to the interactions between the surfactants and other species, the group investigates binary mixtures of surfactants, the formation of inclusion complexes with cyclodextrines, the capacity of the surfactants as denaturants of proteins and the compaction and decompaction of DNA in the presence of surfactants. We are also interested in the use of the surfactants as dispersants of carbon nanotubes.
The characteristics of the micellar aggregates as reaction media are also investigated.
